Sharing a card using the @teamspellbinders Shipmates. I had a bit of fun customizing the dies to make them more realistic. For the raincoat, I used clear embossing powder to give it that typical shine and for the sailor sweater, I used a striped stencil to mimic the seagull sweater. Finally, I also used the Large lumber embossing folder from Tim Holtz and Sizzix for the boat hull and mast.
Products:
Shipmates (Spellbinders)
Sailboat (Studiolight)
Sand and surf die set (My Favorite Things)
Large lumber embossing folder (Tim Holtz / Sizzix)
Cloudy stencil (Lawn Fawn
You go, gull! (Heffy Doodle)
Stripe stencil (Clearly Besotted)
August 2018 kit: smoke (Hero Arts)
Ranger Distress Inks: Speckled egg and salty ocean
Ranger Distress Oxides: Mustard seed, Chipped sapphire
For the walrus, I die cut each item from various cardstocks:
- the walrus body from Lawn Fawn Paper bag cardstock
- the walrus muzzle from Lawn Fawn Chocolate bar and nose from Ranger Matte black alcohol ink cardstock
- the walrus whiskers from Lawn Fawn Kraft and tusks from vanilla cardstock
- the raincoat from white cardstock which I inked with Distress oxide Mustard seed and then covered with two layers of clear embossing powder to give it that waxed aspect
- the raincoat buttons from Simon Says Stamps Black glossy cardstock
- the shirt from white cardstock on which I blended Distress oxide Chipped sapphire through a striped stencil from Clearly Besotted
- the beanie from Lawn Fawn lobster cardstock
- the pipe from brown Wood cardstock
- the smoke from the pipe is from a different die set, the Hero Arts August 2018 kit of the month, which I die cut from vellum
I adhered all pieces with liquid adhesive, except for the muzzle and beanie for which I used thin foam tape. To insert the smoke inside the pipe, I cut a small slot along the bottom edge of the pipe, using a craft knife. I tucked the bottom of the smoke in the slot and adhered it with liquid adhesive at the back of the pipe.
For the seagull, I used various Lawn Fawn cardstock references: Vanilla for the body, Narwhal for the wing tips, Lobster for the cap and string around the neck, and Pumpkin for the legs and beak.
I assembled the seagull with liquid adhesive.
For the boat, I used the new Sizzix large Lumber embossing folder with Lawn Fawn Paper bag cardstock. I first sprayed some water at the back of the cardstock and ran the folder through my die cutting machine. I then die cut the boat hull and mast from the embossed cardstock, with the Studiolight Sailboat die set.
I die cut the sails from white cardstock and aged them with Distress ink Scattered straw. For the pennant, I used Storm cloud cardstock.
I assembled the boat with liquid adhesive and then stamped the sentiment on the right sail, from the Heffy Doodle You go, gull stamp set, with black ink.
For my background, I used white cardstock, 4.1 by 6.1 inches, and blended Distress inks Speckled egg and Salty ocean, using the Lawn Fawn Cloudy stencil. I then adhered the sailboat on the background, as high as possible and glued the seagull on the edge of the hull with one wing behind the mast.
To finish the card, I die cut two waves from Lawn Fawn Blue jay and a darker blue (obviously retired), using the Sand and Surf die set from My Favorite Things. I adhered the lighter wave at the back, with liquid adhesive on top of the sailboat and thin foam tape at the bottom. I then used liquid adhesive for the second wave and finally adhered the walrus with liquid adhesive over the waves and thick foam tape over the sail.
