Reach for the stars

My husband's birthday is this month so I thought I would celebrate him with a few space and plane cards, his favorite themes. For today, I'm sharing a double light up card with additional interactive components using the @pearblossompress Halo light Combo pack and Snap 'n slides.

The Snap 'n slide is an interactive disc that allows you to include spinning elements to your cards. In this project, I'm also testing a prototype for a new Snap 'n slide product that will be released in a few weeks. The new Snap 'n slide is more dedicated to sliders as it allows your element to slide without spinning.

Products:
Halo light Combo pack, Snap 'n slide, Sticky spots, PBP01 stamp set and World best foam tape (Pear Blossom Press)
Shoot for the moon: Critters (Simon Says Stamp)
Joy to the world: Globe (Create a smile)
Basic torn paper: Wall opening (Carla Creaties)
Warm wishes: Jar (Avery Elle stamps)
Let's get crafty (Honeybee stamps)
Astro & the Space whale: Tiny astronauts (Funky Fossil)
Balloon bunch space: Sentiments (Clearly Besotted)
Woodgrain stencil: desk texture (Waffle Flower Craft)
Watercolor plaid stencil: wallpaper (Altenew)

Ranger Distress Oxides: Antique linen, Vintage photo, Gathered twigs, Walnut stain, scorched timber, Peacock feathers, Prize ribbon and Black soot

To create this card, I started by stamping the front panel using the masking technique. I started with the two astronauts at the bottom, from the Astro & The Space Whale stamp set from Funky Fossil. On the helmet of the astronaut on the right, I stamped the sentiment Press here from the Pear Blossom stamp set. This is where I'll have the switch for the Halo light behind the globe.

For the masking paper, my preferred choice are the No-fuss masking sheets from Whimsy Stamps. I use my regular Tsukineko Memento ink to stamp both on card stock and masking paper. I then use scissors to fussy cut all the masks.

After masking the two astronauts, I stamped the jar from the Avery Elle Stamps Warm wishes stamp set, a very old set I've had in my stash. I then stamped the brushes and pens inside, using the Let's get crafty set from Honeybee stamps. I created a longer version of one brush and the yellow pen, leveraging previous masks to stamp the upper and bottom parts separately and create the illusion that the stamps were much longer.

I stamped and masked the support of the globe, using a set from Create a smile, called Joy to the world. I stamped the globe on a separate piece of cardstock.

I then stamped and masked the two cuties and then the wall opening behind them. I also stamped that wall opening onto a separate piece of cardstock to use later as a stencil. I also stamped the little planet inside the opening and masked the whole opening.

I also stamped on a separate piece of cardstock the cute critter in his rocket.

I started to blend the wallpaper in the background. I masked the bottom part of the card that will become the desk, with a piece of mylar, the same material used for stencils. I have a couple square pieces in my stash to use for that purpose. I blended Buttercream dye ink from the Simon Says Stamps Rainbow splash ink collection. I then placed the Altenew Watercolor plaid stencil over it and blended Distress oxide Antique linen which I darkened with a light hand of Vintage photo.

I then masked the upper part with the mylar square and blended Distress oxide Gathered twigs. I then applied the first layer of the Woodgrain stencil set from Waffle Flower and blended Walnut stain, then Scorched timber through the second layer of stencil.

I removed the mask on the wall opening, keeping the critters masks. I took that stamped wall opening on separate cardstock and fussy cut the inside of the opening. I placed it over my card panel and blended Distress oxides Peacock feathers at the bottom, then Prize ribbon and Black soot from bottom to top. I finished the sky with splattering some white gouache with a little water. I let it dry.

I then removed all masked from the images and colored them with Copic markers. I also colored the globe and rocket critter as well. I used a circle die to die cut the globe and the coordinating dies for the rocket. I also die cut the critter and globe a second time from white cardstock to adhere at the back of each, to either make them more sturdy or block the light.

I stamped again the jar on a separate piece of cardstock to use it as a stencil. I fussy cut the inside of the jar and blended Distress ink Salvaged patina over the jar to create the illusion of glass.

I then die cut a circle from my card panel where the globe will be, using a die slightly smaller than the one I used for the globe and I also die cut the sliding slot on the left to it, using a die from my stash. I kept the die cut parts and glued them on to another cardstock panel of the same size, using the openings to glue the cut out part through them.

I taped the Halo light over the circle cut out on the back panel, using double sided adhesive, making sure to place the switch where the astronaut helmet is on the front panel.

I then covered the back panel with the World's best foam tape from Pear blossom Press, around the edges and the globe and slider. I removed the backings, inserted the bottom part of the fixed Snap 'n slide disc over the sliding area and adhered the front panel over it.

I then snapped the upper disc over the sliding snap 'n slide. And I also added a double layer of foam tape over it, using round dots of the same size from Your Next Stamp. This is a retired product, but there are many brands out there offering round foam tape dots. I'm adding a double layer to allow the rocket to go over the globe, since both collide in the center of the sliding slot.

I now need to create a similar slot for the spinning feature. I die cut another circle for cardstock, much smaller than the opening and punched a 1/4" hole in the center, using my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile. I added thin foam tape at the back around the edges, inserted the Spinning Snap 'n slide bottom disc at the back and adhered the circle in the center of the opening. I then snapped the top disc over it and adhered a Sticky spot from Pear Blossom Press. I removed the backing and adhered the globe over it after gluing the extra circle die cut at the back to block the light.

I then created a small tab for the rocket critter, die cutting a strip of cardstock of about 1.5 cm / 0.6 inches and created two score lines in the middle to match the thickness of the One light from Pear Blossom. I stamped the Press here sentiment below the second crease. I then attached the top part of the tab behind the one light with double sided adhesive. I folded the tab over the switch and adhered the second part of the tab to the battery with double sided adhesive.

To make the rocket critter more sturdy, I adhered another white die cut at the back but cut out the flames of the rocket before, to make the light more visible. I glued the critter on top of the tab at an angle. I then removed the backing on the foam tape dot over the snap 'n slide and adhered the tab over it, aligning the battery over the snap 'n slide to create a balance in weight.

And Ta-da!
