Lily of the valley

It is the tradition in France to offer lily of the valley to loved ones as a good luck charm, on the 1st May -Labor Day. This tradition dates back to the Renaissance. After receiving a sprig of lily of the valley while campaigning, King Charles IX decided to perpetuate the custom by establishing it at court and offered a lily of the valley to all ladies on the day of his accession to the throne in 1561.  Later associated with the republican holiday during the Revolution, lily of the valley only officially became the symbol of May 1st at the beginning of the 20th century. This tradition, very popular in France, is also found in Switzerland, Belgium, and Andorra.
