The June Craftroomers' Inspiration Hop has just started on Instagram. Come hop along with us for lots of Summer inspiration and a chance to win one of the cards.
This quarter theme is Summer, including Beach, Traveling and Camping. As an alternative theme, we could also explore the Love theme with Weddings and anniversaries.
I originally wanted to create an Anniversary card, but I've been so obsessed lately with the Cowboy and Western theme that I finally went for a camping and s'more card. As I was assembling the cute hedgehog, I immediately pictured an Indian, with the long fur at the back. Cowboys and Indians are inextricably linked in my mind, so it rapidly became obvious I had to make the second card as well.
For both cards, I used Allison Frazier and Spellbinders Woodland and Trail cuties, and accessories.
Cowboy card
Trailside trio, Woodland trio, Camp days and Autumn scare crow (Spellbinders)
Lovely layers: Firepit and Western wear (Honeybee stamps)
Sedona scene builder stencils (Simon Hurley / Ranger)
Ripple waves stencil (Heffy Doodle)
Howdy stamp set: sentiment (Simon Says Stamp)
Rope and barbs die set (Whimsy Stamps)
Leafy plant die (La-La Land Crafts)
Rootin' tootin': Heehaw sentiment (Crafter's companion)
Ranger Distress oxides: Mustard seed, Carved pumpkin, Picked raspberry, Wilted violet, Gathered twigs and Scorched timber
For the cowboys card, I used the Trailside and Woodland trios which I mixed with Honeybee Stamps die sets for the firepit, cowboy hats and boots. For the bandanas, I used an accessory from the Spellbinders Autumn scare crow die set and added a paisley pattern with a white gel pen. I Copic colored all die cuts to give them more dimension.
For the background, I used the Sedona Scene builder stencil set from Simon Hurley and Ranger. This is an amazing desert stencil set which I just love. This is my second time using it and it blows my mind every time. I also used the Ripple waves stencil from Heffy Doodle to create dry earth on the ground. I think it turned out great.
Finally, to finish the card, I added some plants and stamped the sentiments from two different sets, including one from Alberto Gava and Simon Says Stamp.
I adhered the plants with liquid adhesive, critters with thin foam tape and the firepit with thick foam tape.
I just love how this card turned out and I'm just over the moon how fun this project was. It totally reconciled me with die cuts and I realized that when there is no time pressure, die cuts are not such a big deal. Yes, they do take an awful lot of time, but when you are not in hustle, it actually becomes very pleasant to watch the pieces come together and the scene come to life.
Indian card
Woodland trio, Camp days and Splash days + Fountain wishes (Spellbinders)
Lovely layers: Dog beds and Toil & Trouble (Honeybee stamps)
Cheeky travels (The Greeting Farm)
Festive forest stencil (Clearly Besotted)
Tree tops stencil (The Sassy Club)
Ripple waves stencil (Heffy Doodle)
Slimline Hillside stencil (Lawn Fawn)
Ranger Distress oxides: Twisted citron, Mowed lawn, Rustic wilderness, Cracked pistachio, Pine needles, Tumbled glass, Salty ocean and Blueprint sketch
For the Indian card, I used the hedgehog again and accessorized with the Splash days and Camp days for the canoe, bow and arrows, and campfire. For the teepee, I used the Lovely layers Dog beds from Honeybee stamps. The feathers are from their Toil & Trouble die set and for the headband, I used a detail die from the camp hat. Fringe details were created with a party hat from the Spellbinders Fountain wishes die set.
For the sentiment, I used a The Greeting Farm set and for the background, I used a hill border for the grass, the Heffy Doodle Ripple waves stencil for the lake and a bunch of pine tree stencils in the back.
